Perfection. We’re well aware that it can’t be obtained…
And yet, most of us are at the mercy of it in one way or another. Some are afraid to start things for fear of falling short. Others start, but are afraid to finish for the same reason.
But it isn’t about not attaining perfection. It’s probably about being judged for imperfection. It’s about other people affirming the “less than” feeling we already have about ourselves.
Allowing the impossibility of perfection to influence our action or inaction is destructive. It prevents us from putting forth the best of ourselves. The gifts that we hold go unrealized in the world around us. Not only do we miss the opportunity to positively impact others, we also lose the blessings that may have come back to us as a result of our offering.
What’s your relationship with perfection costing you? What is it costing others?

I had a great response to a post I wrote for MindBodyGreen last week. The subject had to do with breaking negative cycles. And although, the steps seem rather straightforward, we all know that it’s rarely that easy. It got me to thinking about why.
Because of the earth’s gravitational pull, enough speed must be garnered by rockets in order to break free of it. But prior to adequate speed being obtained, fuel is burned in order to create enough thrust to initially propel the rocket. And, the further the rocket gets from the source of the pull, the amount of energy it takes to break free drops.
Negative cycles are nothing more than habits you tend to revolve around. Until you attain enough strength to create thrust then break free of your self-imposed cycle, you will be subject to its hold on you. Only when you supply yourself with enough fuel and support will you then be able to reach your own escape velocity.
The question is, how much fuel do you have? Who is your core group of family or friends? Do you pay attention to self-care? What and who are your energy drains? These are the things that help determine the amount of thrust you can attain.
Only when you have these things in order will you be able to perform all of the five steps listed in the article. It can be done on your own, but it takes much less if you have a strong foundation off of which to launch with a proper amount of fuel to start.
So, what was key for you in breaking some of your past negative patterns? How did you prepare for flight? What do you need to master to break free now?

Have you gone down a path you thought would be more rewarding than it turned out to be? That would apply to most people in some aspect of life – job, relationships, etc. You set out to do something, achieve it, and there’s little sense of satisfaction in the end.
The problem is that we often bear guilt for the way that we feel. That gnawing feeling of “there must be something more” is not something to be said aloud for fear of being seen as ungrateful.
Well, quite frankly, that’s crap.
If your gut is telling you there’s something more, there probably is. This isn’t a matter of greed or lack of gratitude. If you are truly in touch with the depths of your soul, you know when its needs are not being met. That gnawing feeling is a reminder to wake up to your possibilities. That discomfort is simply an unfolding of another dimension in your personal evolution.
Heed the call. “Something more” is your right.

Too many of us are walking around dead inside.
We’re going through the motions, numb to our desires, numb to our essence.
We act as if fulfillment is optional and practicality is what life is about.
We choose existence over living and it’s taking its toll.
If every individual turned inwards and was adamant about pursuing joy, not ephemeral pleasure, but genuine joy…imagine how different this world would be. How vibrant, how generous, how compassionate…
But instead, too many of us choose to ignore that our light is running low.
What are you choosing? How are you coming back to life?
”Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” –Dr. Howard Thurman

It’s easy to complain about every thing that isn’t ideal in your life. Not enough money, not enough time, not enough love. The list is endless.
But when you’re complaining, you’re at your worst. Who wants to be around you except another complainer? Then you can get caught up in the vortex of dissatisfaction which usually amounts to absolutely NOTHING. Why complain in the first place if you’re not going to do anything about it?
Here’s the thing. Complaints shouldn’t be suppressed. Maybe they shouldn’t be shared, but they shouldn’t be suppressed. They’re actually useful because…
A complaint is really just fear in disguise. (Tweet this.)
Imagine if “I’m sick and tired of all of these bills” really means, “I’m afraid I’ll never be self-sufficient.”
Imagine if “There are no good women/men around” really means, “I’m afraid I’ll always be alone.”
Your complaints are simply a deeper part of yourself calling to be acknowledged. So, next time you hear yourself complaining, ask yourself about the true origins of your fear. Put them to good use…or you can just keep complaining. Your choice.
